hello chf!you can pronounce it “hi tunes!”
a circularity of inspiration and earnings
concept
an effort to distribute fair earnings to local artists by having their music played in the places they usually like to go to
cafés, bars, restaurants, concert venues. it’s a patronage in both directions: artists choose the bars and cafés they love, and one of their songs that seems to fit. cafés get sold on the idea of playing local music for three or four hours a day. “hello chf” brings the two together.
selection
choosing the tracks is harder than it sounds. cafés, restaurants and hotels are crowded places where it is crucial to play the right music: one which can nicely live in the background, without taking over or being obtrusive.
here is the rule we go by. no matter the style or the genre, the most important thing is that the music remains consistent. there should be no sudden changes in volume or style. there should be no cuts. a track can’t have a heavy or loud part in it. and since some stereo systems might not always be up to par, we avoid “weird” sounds, which might sound cute in your headphones but yield no result in a bar full of people.
all in all, unfortunately, a lot of great songs simply cannot make the cut.
